Canoe Intelligence Cash Flow Report reveals consolidation taking hold across alternative investments

Q4 2025 data shows top 50 managers command record 51% of institutional NAV as infrastructure emerges as the only asset class generating consistent net inflows.

NEW YORK, May 13, 2026Canoe Intelligence (“Canoe”), the platform for smarter alts management, today published its Q4 2025 Cash Flow Report, analyzing data processed from over 44,000 funds across $11 trillion in assets under administration.

The report identifies consolidation as the central market theme, with capital concentrating around the largest managers, a narrowing field of asset classes covering inflows, and infrastructure as the consistent destination for net new institutional capital.

The Q4 report incorporates an Investor Reporting section, integrating NAV concentration and allocation trend data alongside existing capital flow analysis to offer a more complete view of where institutional capital is present and where it is moving.

Key Findings:

  • Capital consolidation accelerated. The top 50 managers by AUM now represent 51% of total investor NAV in Q4 2025, up from 45% in Q3, the highest concentration recorded across Canoe’s six-quarter dataset.
  • PE and hedge funds hold two-thirds of institutional NAV. Private equity accounts for 44% of total NAV, with hedge funds at 22%, up from 15% in mid-2024.
  • Venture capital overtook private debt in portfolio share for the first time. While private debt NAV continued to grow in absolute terms, its share of overall institutional portfolios fell to 7% as other asset classes expanded more quickly.
  • Distributions outpaced contributions across every asset class except infrastructure in Q4. Private equity recorded the largest absolute net outflow at negative $3.86 billion.
  • Infrastructure is the clear outlier. The only asset class with positive net flows in each of the past four consecutive quarters, infrastructure recorded $5.68 billion in contributions in Q4, generating $1.38 billion in net inflows.
  • North America saw meaningful net outflows in Q4 while Europe absorbed modest net inflows for the first time in Canoe’s trailing six-quarter dataset.

“A decade of processing alternatives data at scale has given us something rare: a real-time window into how institutional capital actually moves, drawn directly from the documents funds send to their investors, said Mike Muniz, Partner and Chief Strategy Officer at Canoe Intelligence. The consolidation patterns we are seeing in Q4 are tangible signals embedded in the million-plus documents we process monthly across 44,000-plus funds. Making that intelligence available to the market is exactly what the Cash Flow Report is designed to do.”
